ABOUT US

Hi my name is Marcus Hooks. I am the owner of Backyard Customs. You may have realized by now that I love classic Mustangs and that’s been so since 1989. I was just 16 years old when I fell in love with my first Mustang. It was a silver 1965 Fastback that I still have to this day. It caught my eye while riding by with my friends up on Alum Rock Ave. I found some time and went back to ask if the owner wanted to sell it. The owner said $5000. That was surely a lot of money for a 16 year old and even more so back in those days. But I was determined. So I went to work odd jobs as well as buy junk fix it up and sell it for a profit.

I saved up $4700 and went back. The owner still as not impressed, slammed the door in my face and said I said the price is $5000. He finally saved up the res of the money and rode over there on his bicycle. The owner took the money. I threw the bike in the back of the car and drove the car home. That was the beginning of my love for classic Mustangs and classics in general. I started working on that car to fix it up from then on out. I went to school for autobody and that grew into restoration of many sorts of classic cars including Chevelles, Camaros, Corvettes and even Harley Davidsons. I even produced a replica of Steve McQueen’s famed Bullit Mustang as well the the famed ‘Gone in 60 Seconds’ Eleanor.

Today I a Master auto-body specialist with expertise in welding, fabrication, collision repair, frame straightening, body straightening, body prep, sanding, painting, detailing and upholstery with some experience in engine repair, electrical wiring, brake, transmission replacement and you’d be hard pressed to find something that I don’t know about classic mustangs.

I have sold my custom cars across the United States and some countries including, Canada, Australia and Germany. I spend most of every day working on a classic Mustang and enjoy thinking, tinkering, building or even talking about Mustangs.

Just like many of you I had a dream car of my youth and was lucky enough to get it, work on it and finish it. But I also know that many of you get started on a project but life kicks in and you just can’t finish it. That’s where I come in. I am fast and affordable.

So if you are in the area and you have a project you’d like to finish come by and let’s talk about it.
